From Wildcard
NPC is an acronym for 'non-player character'. In the strictest sense, it's a character that can be played by anyone - however, in Wildcard, the definition is a bit more lenient. NPCs can be:
- temporary characters. These guys are by their design typically meant to be played only by the person that created them, but they'll be involved in the plot only for a handful of sessions.
- simulation bound Puppets. They're a subset of the temporary characters, in that they're only played for the duration of a simulation, but since a sim can take many sessions to be completed, deserve mention on their own.
- gamemaster characters. Characters that have a strong influence on the plot over several sessions but rarely poke their noses into things in person tend to be considered NPCs. Francisco Ahlgren falls into this category.
- true NPCs, as described in the introductory paragraph.
Any and all characters that do not have a profile can be played by a player different from the one that created them, though a gamemaster should always be consulted first. For this reason, you should create profiles for any character you feel is too important to accidentally fall into the hands of another.
Most NPCs are not notable enough for their own dedicated page on this wiki, but you can find a complete list of all of them below - most pages are redirects to pages that give the NPCs a mention in context (that can span from 'mere oneliner' to a full profile depending on the page). If you just want to see an NPC's log history, check out the NPC list, though the wiki profiles should always link back to the session history, just as vice versa.
