Firfrey

Firfrey is a Puppet in Mer.

She is a sapient creature who introduces herself as 'the Guardian of the Compass', or, alternatively, 'the Watcher over Azur'. Looking at her tiny form, one might wonder just how she intends to guard anything of worth, or keep tabs on someone like Azur, who could easily overpower her.

She's deeply emotionally involved in the mythology of Mer, following the quest like a religion. She's loyal to Azur despite the boy's sceptical take on what she deems core truths. She can be rather fanatical - and should definitely not be underestimated, especially given her usually pleasant manner.

Firfrey's species, the Jacorda, are a purple-furred mixture of a bat (in wings and ears), rat (in tail) and feline (in rear legs and face) traits. Much like Pandawans, they are known as servants more than autonomous creatures, though unlike Pandawans, they are occasionally kept as pets. Firfrey is happy with her status as Tafar's pet/servant, the true 'owner' of the Compass; but not all of her kind have had it as good as she has, and not all of her kind are as content with their role in Mer at large.
