Project Bitscorch

From Wildcard

Jump to: navigation, search

Project Bitscorch is a group headed by Justin Greyhound, coordinated almost entirely via the internet, where they own a server owned by Teo Escarrà, bitscorch.com.

Creation

Technically, it was Paul Greyhound that conceived of Bitscorch, sharing his plans with Justin - it was his entrapment at the end of February 2054 that caused it to truly kick off. Its official anniversary date is the 1st of March 2054.

Purpose

Bitscorch tries to pick up where the ISPs like Aeonis left off. Unlike the ISPs, they actively seek out the help, thoughts and concerns of the relatives of the trapped people, and try to bring the topic to more public attention.

Beyond the technical, Bitscorch tries to also offer itself as a community of the like-minded - somewhere where the members can simply talk about their experience with their comatose siblings, coping mechanisms - and generally seeks to provide a backdrop for emotional support.

Justin himself encourages the group to be open for donations in case the ISPs decide to withdraw their - currently still strong - support of the families by paying for the hospital bills.

bitscorch.com

bitscorch.com (an increasingly informative front page notwithstanding) is really only a simple private, moderated meeting area, with a few select members of the Bitscorch team having administrative privileges. Charles Markovik has been organising the server various fortifications to protect it against possible Wildcard takeover once the group is discovered (which it has been, though so far, no attacks have been detected). Whether it will hold is a different question, though a conscious decision was made to use a non-genAesis server (and thus a non-a-life server), which should help considerably.

The landing page contains a short introduction to the subject (the links do not point to their IC destinations):

The project sees itself chiefly as a community for those affected by internet entrapment phenomena. If you've come here looking for information on failing soft disconnects or internet-related comas, we will be glad to help you, but the first thing you should do if a friend or relative is affected by such symptoms is check the case in with a professional doctor, something we simply cannot replace. Do not externally hard disconnect them without first soliciting professional advice.
If your family is affected, know you are not alone. Bitscorch is dedicated to research on the subject, and can offer you counselling and support free of charge. If you'd like to connect with us, you're most welcome to contact us. Remember that knowledge is power - the more we collectively know about the subject, the better we can combat it.

Relationship with ISPs

The relationship of Bitscorch with the ISPs is currently good, and some members of ISPs that were investigating the Wildcard phenomenom in 2053 before their respective attempts brickwalled have joined Bitscorch, most notably Teo Escarrà and Charles Markovik.

Dark Arcadian roots

Most members of Bitscorch don't know of Justin's nationality. Teo knows but tolerates it out of sheer desperation, and two other members who've grown close to Justin through the project have been informed, but the fact is chiefly kept quiet.

Justin has asked his dad not get involved.
