What exactly constitutes a company is best left to Wikipedia to explain.

Of course, companies have changed a lot in the forty-four years between the time now and Wildcard. Certain companies no longer exist, while others have been created and become global players. Most notably, the following companies prominent now have caved:

• Microsoft. As much as some people might cheer this one on, Microsoft was only one of many victims of the viral outbreak that obsoleted the Von Neumann architecture of computers basically over night.

• Apple. See 'Microsoft'. This company hasn't caved, per se, but it's lost importance so gloriously that the name is basically unheard of.
