Barbelith

Barbelith is a social networking / discussion website who's design really puts the 'mono' into monochromatic. It's most known for emphasising its users by having all of its rooms tinted entirely into one specific colour, making only shadows distinguish objects (even flowers and plants, while otherwise realistic, simply adopt this uniform colour).

Lights throughout Barbelith are a pure white, coming from rectangular, halogen-imitation lamps set into the ceiling.

Avatar rule

Avatar rules are human, though can be easily bypassed - even if this tends to be frowned upon by the Barbelith community at large. Moderators don't stop non-human avatars from persisting, though, but they do make sure that no harrassment occurs (in general), which means that these avatars tend to be closely watched so their abilities cause no discomfort.

Note also: human avatars are given formal clothing.

Moderation

Barbelith allows users to anonymously warn each other, though this is simply a 'report' flag - neither the reported person nor anyone around them will know they've been reported. The more of these reports a user has, the more likely moderator intervention is, though a case-by-case inspection is nonetheless done.

Structure

Barb is Barbelith's 'greeter bot'.

On entering Barbelith, users are confronted with 'Barb', who is something of a Barbelith greeter bot, but considerably more intelligent than one might assume of the rather mechanical seeming Puppet on first impression.

Barb, a simple, glowing sphere, is the only thing that blatantly breaks Barbelith's monochromatic scheme. Permanent resident of the Lobby unless privately summonned (where he will not be visible to other guests; and most often is merely a copy, since the Lobby cannot go unmonitored), Barb's colour is a warm, radiant orange.

The Lobby is a pastel shade of plum or purple - it teeters somewhere between the two. Most people consider the colour quite pleasant.

The Conversation Hall is held in a uniform, silvery grey, excepting the aquarium, which has hints of other hues in the fishes (subtle), though not enough to distract from the uniformity.
